What are themes?
Themes are the editorial guidelines (categories) marked for upcoming issues. They are a roadmap for the kinds of
things we plan to publish. Themes can be general or very specific depending on the kind of content we are looking for.
What is an upcoming theme?
An upcoming theme is one slated for an upcoming issue. It has a specific deadline for content collection.
How often do upcoming themes change?
Upcoming themes change about every 30 days.
What is an ongoing theme?
An ongoing theme is essentially an open theme. It may appear in any issue and it does not have a specific
deadline. Content from ongoing themes may be pulled from for publication at any time.
What does it mean when a theme is "In Production?"
When a theme is "In Production," all of the content (photos and stories) submitted to it are under
review. In addition, voting for a theme that is "In Production" is closed and the content within
that theme is inalterable until the magazine is published.
What does it mean when a theme is "Closed?"
When a theme is "Closed," it has already been published in the magazine. As a result, voting for that
theme is closed and the content within that theme is unalterable. Note: themes will never appear twice.
Once a theme closes, it is never re-opened.
What are deadlines?
Deadlines mark the cut-off for content submission and voting on upcoming issue themes. Once a theme deadline has
passed, the photos and stories associated with that theme are reviewed for publication. The theme is then
"In Production," however the photos and stories are still on the seen website to be viewed and commented on.
How do I get published?
The criteria determining which photos and stories get published depends on a variety of factors. The "votes"
and "views" of content are critically important, as are a user's level of activity on the seen website
(reflected by points), his/her number of fans, the quality of his/her stories (proper tone, flow and syntax, relevance
to the theme) and/or the quality of his/her photos (resolution, relevance to the theme).
How do I submit photos?
Submitting a photo to seen magazine is easy. It involves two steps: 1. Picking a theme; 2. Uploading the photo.
Can I access photos on my computer? Or from photo/social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and Flickr?
seen makes it easy to find your favorite photos, no matter where they are. If you keep most of your photos
on your computer, you can browse your folders and simply upload them with a single click. Or if you want to connect to your
favorite photo-sharing sites, seen is compatible with Facebook, MySpace, Flickr, Picasa and Photobucket.
Can I change a photo's/story's theme after I've submitted it?
Yes.
Do high-resolution photos have a greater chance of being published?
Yes. Typically photos larger than 2MB have the best chance of being published.
How do I submit stories?
Submitting a story is as easy as submitting photos. First, pick a theme, then title your story and write the body copy.
To finish your story, pick up to five photos you want included as part of the story. Any photos included in a story will
appear on the seen website, regardless of whether the story is deleted. Note: photos included within a
story do not count as individual photo submissions.
How many words can I have in a story?
A story can have up to 2,000 words and must be no less than 200 words.
How many photos can I have in a story?
A story can contain up to five photos.
Is there a limit to how many photos/stories I can submit for publication?
In theory, no. We encourage users to submit as many photos and stories as they want. The more content you submit, the more points
you will earn, and the more items you can potentially buy. However, there is a daily limit of ten photo and five story submissions
per user per day.
Can I go back and edit a story once it's been submitted?
Yes, you can edit everything in the story - the body, title and/or the photos included within it - even after it has been submitted.
Note: when a story is submitted to an upcoming theme, it can only be modified up until the theme's deadline. Once an upcoming
theme's deadline passes, the content of the story is inalterable.
