The obesity epidemic in our country: What I have done.
submitted on Nov 10, 2009
Almost two years ago I looked back on my life of yo-yo dieting with dismay. I was 43 years old, 230+ pounds, and could not stand the thought of another fad diet.
My wife and three children were leading active lives and I wanted to be a part of their world. I knew something had to change and resolved myself to the fact that there really were no short cuts to good health.
In order to be part of my family's active life I'd have to eat less and move my body more, but how could I make this change for the rest of my life? Fortunately, I had been involved in several small groups and understood the power and support they possessed. The idea was very simple:with the active support of a dozen friends and family I knew I could change my life one day at a time. After 90 days I was off to a good start and today am down 45 pounds and earlier this year ran my first 10K! This experience profoundly changed my life ... and I was determined to help others do the same.
Earlier this year I founded and launched No Short Cutz and Austin-based Sports and Fitness Social Network, based on the simple platform that worked for me. I believe that the time is ripe to channel the power of social networking and small groups to make a positive difference in the health of all our communities and lives. At its core, No Short Cutz is made up of Fit-Pods: groups of 8-12 No Short Cutz members that join together with a common goal of better health through community. The Pod is kept safe, accessible only to Pod members. Each Pod member is required to report daily their snacks, meals, and exercise for 30 days. Honesty, accountability, support, and encouragement are the cornerstones that inspire members to attain their personal goals more easily.
If you or your friends and family are ready to make a difference in your life and those around you log on for free to www.noshortcutz.com.
Have a great day and a happy and healthy tomorrow!
